A clothing boutique in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids is relocating outside of the city’s core.

Lee & Birch

Lee & Birch, founded in 2007, said yesterday that it’s relocating its Grand Rapids store, at 50 Louis St. NW, to the Wealthy Street neighborhood, at 759 Wealthy St. SE.

The retailer will take over the former Ron’s Car Wash and Coffee Shop building at the end of May and host a grand re-opening.

The downtown Grand Rapids location will close on May 15.

Lee & Birch features modern and classic clothes and accessories for men and women, as well as special events, such as fashion shows. Lee & Birch also operates two stores in Grand Haven.

Nikki Gillette, owner of Lee & Birch, said that while she’s enjoyed being downtown for more than three years, she’s looking forward to joining the thriving Wealthy Street neighborhood and better serving customers.

The store is primarily moving to be closer to its customer base.

“We have been thinking about this for almost a year now,” Gillette said. “We’re excited about the move, and we think it is going to be a great area for us.”

New space

The Wealthy Street space offers the potential for expansion, outdoor space for special events and fashion shows and free parking.

The 1,200-square-foot building is considered historic and much of the site will remain the same, with the exception of some renovations: painting, building a larger patio and installing a glass garage door.
