An Ann Arbor-based coffee chain is coming to downtown Grand Rapids.

As the apartment building at 601 Bond Ave. NW begins leasing, the project's developer, New York-based Time Equities, has announced Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea as a retail tenant for the project.

The chain offers a variety of coffees, teas, pastries and desserts.

Sweetwaters was founded in 1993 by Wei Bee and Lisa Bee in downtown Ann Arbor near their alma mater, the University of Michigan.

The company now operates locations in multiple states: Michigan, California, Georgia, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, North Carolina and Iowa.

The 601 Bond shop will be the company’s first Grand Rapids location.
