Coffee chain opens suburban location

A new coffee shop with a drive-thru has opened in a Grand Rapids suburb.

Starbucks’ new 2,148-square-foot location in Cascade Township, at 6753 Cascade Rd. SE, has brought new life to the shopper center with the drive-thru, outside seating and updated building facades, according to DAR Development, which represents the shopping center's owner, P&L Company.

The chain had been looking for a drive-thru location on Cascade Road for several years, said Dave Denton, VP of commercial real estate brokerage at DAR Development and the tenant representative for Starbucks.

When a few spaces became vacant in the middle of the shopping center also represented by DAR Development, Denton recalled a Starbucks location in Naples, Florida that had a vacant rental suite demolished to accommodate a drive-thru.

“Sometimes less can be more, and in this case, less overall square footage in the building added greater overall value to the center,” Denton said. “And an upgrade to Starbucks, a sought-after national tenant.”

Innovative Design and DAR Construction designed and built the new location.

Another 1,526-square-foot retail space is currently available next to the Starbucks.
