A local coffee company has acquired another beverage maker.
Grand Rapids-based Prospectors Cold Brew Coffee recently completed its acquisition of Grand Rapids-based Bloom Ferments Kombucha.
Both companies have moved warehousing and production into a 12,000-square-foot space in Kentwood, near 44th Street SE and E. Paris Avenue SE, operating as Prospectors Specialty Beverage.
Prospectors Cold Brew Coffee and Bloom Ferments Kombucha both started in the Incubator Kitchen at the Grand Rapids Downtown Market, where David Wentworth, co-founder of Prospectors, met Emily Helmus, founder of Bloom.
The businesses have grown significantly from their startup roots, with distribution through Meijer, Lipari, Cherry Capital and dozens of other retailers across the state.
“Bloom Ferments is a local, authentic brand in the rapidly growing kombucha and fermented foods category,” Wentworth said. “Emily created a strong following for her kombucha, with a emphasis on natural fermentation, local roots and unique flavor profiles.”
Bloom Ferments Kombucha is available in six flavors: lavender hibiscus, chai, ginger, cascara, jasmine and All Hopped Up.
“The beverage market as a whole is changing and growing exponentially, with more consumer spending focused on single-serve beverages in categories like cold brew coffee and kombucha that didn’t exist commercially seven years ago,” said Eric Pearson, co-founder, Prospectors Specialty Beverage.
“We’re confident the evolution of health-focused beverages and non-dairy beverages will continue to grow, and we are proud to make relevant local brands for consumers.”
Bloom Ferments Kombucha was founded in 2013, brewing in small batches with organic ingredients.
Prospectors Cold Brew Coffee was founded in 2014 and specializes in organic, fair-trade cold-brew coffee.
