A local college has named its new diversity director.

Aquinas College said last week it hired Alicia Lloyd as the director for its Center of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity and special advisor to the president.

Lloyd will educate the campus community on matters of equity, diversity and inclusion. She will provide assistance, mentoring and support to students and student organizations representing diverse backgrounds.

She will also act as the school's Title IX coordinator and be responsible for related compliance, education and reporting.

Aquinas said the position has been added to the President's Cabinet and is a special advisor to the president on establishing strategic direction for diversity initiatives across campus.

Lloyd comes to Aquinas from Grand Valley State University, where she served as senior academic advisor, helping lead the Laker Academic Success Center.

She has held numerous other positions at GVSU in the Dean of Students Office, Student Affairs and the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

She also served in the Office of Residence Life at Miami University in Ohio.

“We’re very pleased to have someone of Alicia’s talent and experience lead such an important facet of the college,” said Kevin Quinn, president, Aquinas College. “Community is one of our four college pillars and a cornerstone of that community is a culture of diversity and inclusiveness. Alicia will help us build that common vision.”

Lloyd holds a master’s degree in adult and higher education with a focus in college student affairs leadership and a bachelor’s degree in advertising and public relations, both from GVSU.
