Two West Michigan companies have received national recognition for their outstanding workplace environments.
Disher Design & Development in Zeeland and Kalamazoo-based Greenleaf Trust rank as two of the 25 “Best Small Workplaces” in the U.S. by Great Place to Work in its 12th-annual “Best Small & Medium Workplaces” rankings, which are published by Fortune.
Disher ranks No. 21, and Greenleaf Trust ranks No. 23.
Traverse City-based Hagerty, an insurance agency, also ranks as the No. 12 best medium-size workplace.
The small workplace ranking recognizes companies with 25 to 250 employees, while medium-size workplaces recognizes companies with 251 to 999 employees.
Disher Design & Development is a product design consultancy founded in 2000. It employs 89 people in the U.S.
Full-time employees at Disher receive corporate stock, and profit sharing is awarded in bi-annual bonuses.
Once a month, employees meet with a mentor to review and discuss their long-time goals.
Its employees are offered college tuition reimbursement up to $5,400 annually, paid time off for volunteering, 10.5 holidays, 15 vacation days and unlimited sick days.
In the past year, it added 16 new full-time jobs.
Founded in 1998, Greenleaf Trust specializes in wealth management, trust and estate administration and the administration of company-sponsored retirement plans.
It has additional offices in Birmingham, Petoskey and Traverse City.
Greenleaf Trust pays 100 percent of health care premiums for its 95 employees and their families.
It also offers college tuition reimbursement, health club membership reimbursements up to $600, unlimited sick days and 15 days of vacation.
In the last year, Greenleaf Trust added two full-time employees.
Great Place to Work selected the companies based on employee responses to a 58-question survey, the “Trust Index Employee Survey,” in addition to a “Culture Audit” questionnaire issued to the companies regarding their benefits, pay and hiring practices.
This year, the survey was sent to more than 88,000 employees at 450 companies and represents figures up to July 2015.
Two-thirds of a company’s ranking comes from the employee survey, with the remaining one-third measured on the audit.
Great Place to Work produces a series of best-workplaces rankings, including Fortune’s annual “100 Best Companies to Work For” ranking.
