An engineering firm in the region has been acquired by an out-of-state company.

West Palm Beach, Florida-based WGI said this month it acquired Kalamazoo-based Carl Walker, Inc.

Carl Walker specializes in parking consulting, parking structure design and mixed-use facilities.

The transaction is expected to close Friday.

The acquisition is the third in three years for WGI, which will now operate 13 offices in six states.

Carl Walker will continue to operate as a division of WGI.

“We are excited about the expanded national presence and capabilities that Carl Walker brings to our firm and our diverse infrastructure team,” said David Wantman, president and CEO, WGI. “We’re thrilled at the synergy and opportunities that await.”

WGI said Carl Walker President and CEO Gary Cudney and "all" Carl Walker executives and associates will continue in their roles.

“WGI’s client-centered approach, strong work ethic, values and expertise in transportation and planning, along with the compelling opportunity for growth, were significant factors for the move to WGI,” Cudney said. “Joining WGI expands our professional services, footprint and ability to develop sustainable, engaging and adaptable parking solutions for clients nationwide.”

Carl Walker has four other offices in North Carolina, Illinois, Texas and Indiana.

WGI has eight offices in Florida.
