A winery in the region has been acquired.

Entente Spirits, the parent company of Round Barn Winery, said last it week it acquired Tabor Hill Winery in Buchanan.

The portfolio of Baroda-based Entente Spirits also includes Free Run Cellars and Round Barn Public House.

With the acquisition of Tabor Hill, the state’s fourth-largest winery, Entente Spirits will more than double its wine production and add 25 acres of vineyards, a restaurant and three retail locations.

The acquisition was assisted by Berrien Springs-based Honor Credit Union and the Michigan Small Business Development Center.

“The core values that were planted at Tabor Hill and fostered at all of our properties haven’t changed,” Entente Spirits Founder Rick Moersch said. “We always strive to put the best product forward and will continue to do so on our life’s journey.”

Moersch began his career 38 years ago at Tabor Hill, when he was hired him to run the wine lab, before being promoted to head winemaker in 1981. Later that year, Moersch and his wife, Sherrie, purchased a 28-acre farm to begin planting and selling grapes to Tabor Hill.

The Moersch sons, Chris and Matt, worked at Tabor Hill while they grew up.

“When we toured Tabor Hill during negotiations this past year, countless childhood memories came rushing back,” Matt Moersch said. “It was like going home. My brother Chris and I have a deep-rooted love and passion for this brand.”

The Moersch’s started Heart of the Vineyard in 1992, which eventually became Round Barn Winery, Distillery and Brewery.

“What started with just our family twenty-five years ago has become a thriving group of unique businesses,” Chris Moersch said.

“We want to contribute meaningfully to the southwest Michigan farming and hospitality industries, while making our customers’ experience our top priority.”
