A maker of medical compression products in the region has been sold to a Swiss medical device company.

SIGVARIS Group of Winterthur, Switzerland, which focuses on the development, production and distribution of medical compression garments, said last month that it has completed an acquisition of BiaCare in Holland.

BiaCare has become known in the medical device industry for the design and production of short-stretch Velcro wraps, as well as day and night garments for lymphedema, lipedema and chronic venous insufficiency patients.

SIGVARIS said BiaCare’s advanced line of compression products will make SIGVARIS a "worldwide go-to brand" for patients with veno-lymphatic diseases and disorders.

The acquisition will “significantly increase” BiaCare’s ability to provide physicians and therapists the compression solutions they need, according to BiaCare President Keith Hoffman.

BiaCare and SIGVARIS are “perfectly aligned,” according to Dan Karadsheh, VP of BiaCare, who said both companies have a “passion” to see patients with complex edema have “better outcomes and an improved quality of life.”

The acquisition of BiaCare continues SIGVARIS’ “long-term strategy of expanding its product assortment” for patients in need of medically complex therapy options, said Andreas Schönenberger, CEO of SIGVARIS Group.

“In this rapidly growing market segment, SIGVARIS will maintain its place as a global leader in terms of both innovation and compression therapy,” he said.

SIGVARIS’ distribution network spans more than 70 countries on six continents.
