A local company’s specialty syrup is considered outstanding by its peers in the specialty food industry.
Grand Rapids-based BLiS Gourmet said last month that its bourbon-barrel-aged maple syrup won the 2016 sofi award for Outstanding Dessert Sauce or Topping.
“This is our flagship product, and our entire team is honored to be recognized,” said Steve Stallard, owner, BLiS Gourmet.
More than 3,200 products competed in 28 categories in the Specialty Outstanding Food Innovation, or sofi, Awards by the Specialty Food Association.
The products were judged by chefs, culinary experts, academics, food writers and buyers.
“A sofi means a product and the people behind it have arrived,” said Laura Santella-Saccone, chief marketing officer, Specialty Food Association. “This year’s honorees represent a devotion to excellence and innovation in specialty food that continues to fuel our industry.”
BLiS was founded in 2004 by Stallard.
Other BLiS products include bourbon-barrel-aged soy sauce and Blast hot-pepper sauce.
The company’s products can be found at its website, Williams Sonoma stores and Meijer, as well as select retailers.
