A man with decades of experience is the first non-family member to be named president and CEO of a long-time concrete company in the region.
Kalamazoo-based Consumers Concrete Corporation said last week it has appointed Bruce Blair to the roles.
Owners Tom Thomas and Steve Thomas retired from their day-to-day positions as CEO and president, respectively. They will continue on as chairman and vice chairman of the company.
The owners said they desire to keep the company locally owned.
“It was important that we facilitated the transition to the next generation by installing senior leadership with the knowledge, experience and expertise necessary to maintain our leadership position in the Michigan markets we service,” Tom Thomas said.
Blair said he'll do his best to continue the leadership established by the owners.
“There will be no letup in our commitment to maintaining the trust our customers place in us every day as we move forward,” Blair said.
Blair has held manufacturing, sales, quality control, research and development and marketing roles in more than 30 years in the concrete industry with Lafarge and LafargeHolcim.
Most recently, Blair was VP of product performance and marketing at Lafarge from 2012 to 2016.
He holds degrees in geology and civil engineering from the University of Western Ontario.
Founded in 1933, Consumers Concrete operates 22 ready-mix concrete plants throughout West Michigan.
The company also operates two concrete block manufacturing plants, a pre-cast and “redi-rock” plant and four retail locations.
