Construction firm expands leadership

A local construction firm has made some big leadership changes.

Kurt Hassberger, previously Rockford’s president of real estate development has been elevated to the newly created role of chief counsel, leading overall company initiatives and directly supporting Rockford founder and CEO Mike VanGessel.

“This leadership transition allows Rockford Construction to advance our commitment to superior client service by broadening our leadership,” VanGessel said. “We are focused on making Rockford Construction a place where dedicated team members can thrive and grow.”

Hassberger has more than 40 years of experience in zoning, municipal and real estate issues. Hassberger previously served as COO and general counsel for Rockford Construction and is currently acting as chairman of the board.

“It’s been a joy and a privilege to work for Rockford Construction for the past two decades and I’m excited about this next evolution,” Hassberger said. “I look forward to working even more closely with Mike and the entire leadership team to ensure we remain the premier provider of real estate development, property management and construction services in the region.”

The role of president of real estate will go to Mike Mraz, who previously was managing partner of real estate and development.

Mraz has more than 16 years of experience in the real estate, construction and property management industries. He has led all aspects of the real estate development process including financing, acquisitions, leasing, project management, investor relations and owner’s representation.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to lead such a dedicated and talented team,” Mraz said. “Our 45 real estate and property management professionals are hospitality-driven and are experts in their given fields. We are certainly poised for growth both in Grand Rapids and regionally.”
