A local construction firm has a new director of development.

Grand Rapids-based Rockford Construction said yesterday it hired Rachel Scott as its director of development services, real estate development.

Most recently, Scott worked for Deutsche Bank and was responsible for a $280-million real estate portfolio of 50 properties in eight countries.

“Rachel brings an incredible portfolio of expertise to our team,” said Mike VanGessel, CEO, Rockford Construction. “She will be a key member of our development group, helping us turn impossibilities into opportunities for neighborhoods, businesses and communities in which we serve.”

Previously, Scott worked for Citigroup and CBRE. At Citigroup, Scott was part of a team managing a $650-million portfolio of properties in 72 countries.

She holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

“Rockford Construction has a strong history of visionary ideas with a purpose,” Scott said. “I’m pleased to be part of development efforts that are community-focused, providing spaces of beauty, value and soul. I look forward to the challenges, opportunities and successes this new role will bring.”
