A West Michigan construction firm is celebrating over a dozen years of safety excellence.

Holland-based Elzinga & Volkers, or E&V, reached an industry milestone on Sept. 11 and is celebrating 4,500 days of no lost time, the equivalent of more than 12 years.

“This has not been an easy accomplishment,” said Mike Novakoski, president and CEO, Elzinga & Volkers. “Our team has put thousands of hours into training and safety programs to keep our employees healthy and ensure we deliver successful projects for our clients and the communities we work in.

“Not many other firms are able to say they do what we do, and we are proud to acknowledge the effort it takes to remain first in class.”

Since May 15, 2007, E&V field personnel have worked over 2,268,000 hours with no lost time due to injury.

“By focusing on safety, we have been able to move forward without any lost time,” said Tony Roussey, COO, Elzinga & Volkers. “Employees are the lifeblood of our company and imperative to our success.

“Safety is a company-wide effort, not to save money on insurance premiums, but because we are morally and ethically obligated to send each team member home safely at the end of the day. For us, safety has always been about ‘Leading from the heart.’ Our employees are not a number. They are part of our family.”

E&V offers construction management and other services to various industries, including senior living, health care, manufacturing and food processing.

The firm employs over 102 field personnel across West Michigan.
