The site of a former convenience store is under construction and soon will be home to three new tenants.

Grand-Rapids based CD Barnes Construction recently started partial demolition of the previous Keegstra’s Dollar Store building at 3499 Kelly St. in Hudsonville.

The 11,200-square-foot space is being remodeled to house three separate tenants once the project is complete. Renovations to the building include a complete exterior update with new windows, an outdoor patio and a new entrance facing Harvey Street.

Velocity Nutrition, a specialty toy store called Leaping Panda Hobbies and an unnamed “high-end” medical space will occupy the building.

The project is expected to be complete in late August, with businesses starting to open in September.

Keegstra’s Dollar Store closed its doors on March 12 after two decades of business in Hudsonville. Owners Joel and Jenny Keegstra on Jan. 4 shared the news in a post on Facebook.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to serve you over the (past) 20 years,” the post said. “But as with all things, there is a beginning and an end. We have decided to close this chapter in our lives to start a new one.”

MEM Designs will serve as the architect for the renovation project. Grand Rapids-based Moxie is providing development and real estate services.
