A consulting firm is hosting an event downtown tomorrow for anyone interested in becoming a franchisee of a local or national franchise.

FranNet of West Michigan will host its event, the Michigan Franchise Forum: Meet the Franchisors Expanding in Michigan, from 3 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the Grand Valley State University Bicycle Factory.

Held on a bi-annual basis, the free forum invites aspiring entrepreneurs to learn about franchises that are looking to expand in Michigan.

The seminar incorporates a brief introduction into the franchise industry, presentations made by six franchises, tips on funding, an update on the status of franchising within the state and an opportunity for one-on-one engagement between the attendees and franchisors.

Brigitte Betser, franchise executive at FranNet, said the event is an opportunity for franchisors to identify potential candidates to own or invest in their concept to expand into West Michigan.

With possible development locations in the Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and lakeshore areas, some of the concepts have initial investments starting at $70,000.

“It is an event where we showcase different franchise opportunities,” Betser said. “Each franchise is going to talk about their concept for 10 minutes, talk about the ideal candidate and qualities they are looking for in a franchise owner.”

The franchisors represent several industries: light manufacturing, home and office décor, retail and commercial distribution and recycling, professional staffing and residential and commercial building services.

In its third year, Betser said the Michigan Franchise Forum has had positive feedback from those who have attended and has helped dispel the belief that franchises are only offered in the food and retail industries.

“Individuals really like to see the potential opportunities that become available and the idea of variety franchising has to offer,” Betser said.

Representatives from the Michigan Small Business Development Center should also be in attendance for attendees to learn more about the center’s services and resources.

Registration is required for the event.

Originally established in 1987 as the Franchise Network Group, the organization has grown to more than 55 locations across North America.

The company provides consulting services to entrepreneurs interested in franchising opportunities and matches them with prospective development concepts.
