Contractor looks east for $2.3M job

A Grand Rapids contractor has just completed a $2.3 million construction-and-renovation job at a 238 unit affordable senior housing community.

Wolverine Building Group recently finished making a host of exterior and interior improvements to all the apartments at Bethany Villa Apartments in Troy.

Wolverine also built a community center, added outbuildings and installed energy-saving equipment to the facility owned by the Bethany Village Housing Association, a nonprofit organization.

“The residents are so appreciative of the improvements we’ve made to their apartments,” said Jenni Aiello, Wolverine Building Group project manager.

Renovation a day

What’s notable about the project is each upgrade to every apartment was made in a single day.

Aiello said residents were relocated on the morning of their particular construction day and were returned to their apartments that evening.

Wolverine completed many improvements: new windows, floors, bathrooms fixtures, blinds, doors, awnings, cabinets, air conditioning units, Energy Star rated kitchen appliances and new coats of paint.

Community center

The community center work features a computer room that offers resident classes, a large meeting room, a beauty salon and quiet areas to meet with friends and family.

“The new community center is a welcome addition, giving the residents an opportunity to get out of their apartments for classes or socializing, particularly during the winter months,” Aiello said.

HUD loan

Construction totaled $2.3 million. The work was funded by a Housing and Urban Development mortgage loan obtained through Pillar Finance LLC.

Paragon Management manages Bethany Villa Apartments. All 238 units are occupied.

Bethany Villa offers one- and-two bedroom apartments on 18 acres in the heart of Troy, at 1680 Jackson Dr.
