Experience Grand Rapids has booked a national convention that will bring its own aerial entertainment when it comes to town.
The National Fireworks Association will hold its annual convention in Grand Rapids on Sept. 6-11, 2016.
More than 1,000 attendees are expected.
Experience Grand Rapids, Kent County’s marketing organization, said yesterday that it’s predicting the National Fireworks Convention will book 1,195 room nights in Kent County and have an economic impact of $919,006.48.
The association will also host a public fireworks display on Sept. 10, 2016, at Berlin Raceway in Marne, northwest of Grand Rapids.
“All of the people at the Amway Grand Plaza hotel, the DeVos Place convention center and the Berlin Raceway are very nice people that tried very hard to please us,” said Don Lantis, president, National Fireworks Association. “We appreciated all of their hard work in bringing our annual convention to Grand Rapids.”
The association formed in 1993 in response to what it felt was overregulation by the U.S. Department of Transportation and other federal agencies that threatened the health and future of the fireworks industry.
The mission of the association is to work to ensure that the fireworks industry is regulated in a fair and sensible manner. The association promotes safety within the industry and to consumers.
