A foundation’s grant is fueling a mobile food program.
Perrigo Charitable Foundation donated $40,000 to Meals on Wheels of Western Michigan.
The organization will use the donation to purchase a specialized food delivery truck that can handle the severe winter months to deliver meals to the elderly in Allegan County, where Perrigo’s North American base of operations is located.
The new truck will travel 150 miles of Allegan County roads to serve more than 300 families with more than 48,000 meals delivered annually. Prior to the donation, Meals on Wheels delivery drivers were required to use their own vehicles.
“The Perrigo Charitable Foundation focuses on health and education, and food delivery to the elderly is a key part of ensuring the health of our communities,” said Tom Farrington, EVP and CIO, and president of the Perrigo foundation. “With many employees residing here in Allegan, Michigan, this gift is making an impact on the community where they live and work.”
To show its appreciation, Meals on Wheels of Western Michigan created a special decal on the side of the truck: “Meals Powered by Perrigo.”
