The daughter of a prosecutor in the region has been fired from a summer internship in his office.
The Van Buren County Board of Commissioners dismissed Stephanie Bedford from her job in the office of Prosecutor Michael Bedford, The Herald-Palladium reported this week.
The board found her employment violated the county's nepotism policy.
Stephanie Bedford, a college student, was hired last month to help close old criminal case files. Her father has said his office frequently hires interns.
The board approved a nepotism policy earlier this year.
Michael Bedford told commissioners in an email that the office wouldn't have hired his daughter if "we thought it was a close call."
He believes policies weren't violated but won't interfere with the board's decision.
