A new sandwich shop is opening on the West Side.

Grain Sandwich Shop will open for business on Oct. 7 in Grand Rapids, at 812 Butterworth St. SW.

The shop is owned by the husband-and-wife team of Alex Wilkening and Sy Wilkening.

The business is leasing the 1,000-square-foot storefront from Bluefin Ventures.

The menu will consist of eight sandwiches with seasonal flair and regional flavors.

The shop will also feature Nantucket desserts, Great Lakes potato chips and homemade pasta salad and coleslaw.

The shop will feature all Michigan-made food products, including Nantucket Bread, Visser Farms produce, Sobie Meats and Grilla Grills sauce and dry rub.

Both West Michigan natives, the Wilkenings chose to open the shop near their hometowns of Jenison and Grandville.

“Grand Rapids has so much to offer, but we saw a need for a quality, fresh sandwich shop on the West Side,” said Alex Wilkening, who called sandwiches “the best food group.”
