The region’s distilling industry continues to grow as a craft spirits maker is doubling production.
Coppercraft Distillery in Holland said last week that it has received a 750-gallon still from Vendome Copper and Brass Works in Louisville, Ky. The system has a stainless steel pot and an 18-foot copper column.
The distillery will increase its capacity from 15,000 cases annually to more than 30,000.
The still will also create three to five jobs at the distillery.
Quick-growing demand had made it hard for the distillery to keep up, and Coppercraft ordered the system months ago.
“Since we launched distribution in Michigan, we’ve seen a rapid uptick in demand,” said Walter Catton, owner and co-founder, Coppercraft Distillery. “The investment in this still represents our commitment to scale with the demand we expected for our products. This helps us to seamlessly meet demand locally — and as we grow and reach new markets in the coming months.”
The distillery plans to distribute its products soon to Chicago, Colorado and Minnesota.
Coppercraft Distillery distributes gin, rum, vodka and citrus-flavored vodka, with its first set of bourbon, whiskies and brandies coming later this year.
