A Grand Rapids distillery is set to release a series of whiskies in partnership with Grand Rapids breweries.
Long Road Distillers will release four whiskies made with four beers from four Grand Rapids breweries.
The Beer City Whisky series will be released over the next four months, with the first release on May 23 of Mitten Country Strong Malt Whisky, made with Mitten Brewing Co.’s Country Strong IPA.
“We’re proud to be part of the craft beverage scene in Grand Rapids,” Long Road Distillers Co-Owner Jon O’Connor said. “We credit the breweries in this city with laying the groundwork for folks like us to open up and be successful.
“We wanted to create a product that celebrated the collaborative nature of the industry here.”
Long Road worked with each beer’s mash and distilled it on a 500-gallon Vendome pot still, then aged it for between 12 and 24 months.
The company said 100 to 200 bottles of each whisky will be released.
The first release coincides with Long Road’s second anniversary. Up to 40 bottles of Mitten Country Strong Malt Whisky will be available for reservation, by signing up for a tour and tasting with the production teams of Long Road and the Mitten, located across the street from the distillery.
“There’s nothing better than working with friends to create something unique and new,” Long Road Distillers Co-Owner Kyle VanStrien said. “These whiskies will excite everyone, from the craft beer aficionado to the adventurous whisky-drinker.”
