A local credit union has named a new executive.

Grand Rapids-based Lake Michigan Credit Union, or LMCU, hired Jeff VanderMeulen as VP of commercial lending, according to LMCU last month.

Jim Maskell, SVP of commercial lending with LMCU, said he is “excited” to add VanderMeulen’s “experience and enthusiasm” to the LMCU team.

“The continued expansion of our commercial banking footprint is a key initiative for us, and Jeff, with his background and experience, is a big win for LMCU,” Maskell said.

VanderMeulen said he was drawn to LMCU, because it is “truly a family.”

“I’m sincerely excited about growing that family by adding new members — whether it’s a business or individuals,” VanderMeulen said.

VanderMeulen has been in the banking industry for over seven years and specializes in manufacturing, commercial real estate and construction financing.

Previously, he was VP of business banking at Fifth Third Bank and assistant VP of business banking at PNC.

He holds a B.B.A. in finance from Grand Valley State University.
