A credit union in the region has opened its new headquarters.
Kalamazoo-based Consumers Credit Union opened last month a 92,000-square-foot, three-story corporate office located on 22 acres at The Groves Engineering Business Technology Park in Kalamazoo, at 7200 Elm Valley Dr.
The building houses about 150 employees who were previously spread across four locations, the credit union said.
It includes a 107,000-square-foot parking structure.
“We are excited to have many of our support and sales teams combined under the same roof,” said Kit Snyder, president and CEO, Consumers Credit Union. “With Consumers now serving more than (86,000) members at 19 offices, this building allows us the space and infrastructure needed to provide the world-class member service for which we are known.”
Firms on the project
The Chicago office of global design firm HOK handled the project’s engineering and architectural and interior design.
Portage-based AVB was the contractor.
Grand Rapids-based Richmond Interior Systems installed Haworth TecCrete raised access flooring throughout the building, which has an under-floor air distribution system.
Amenities and room for growth
The new headquarters features a connection to nature via glass walls and natural lighting, central gathering spaces, wellness amenities and open workspaces, collaboration and training.
Consumers selected the site for its natural setting, visibility and central location in West Michigan.
The company said the building represents a “significant expansion and dedication to growth in Michigan,” including a now central location for recruiting regional talent and retaining employees.
“Our new home underscores Consumers’ strong commitment to West Michigan, including its communities and its local economy,” Snyder said.
The building was designed to accommodate future growth and can be expanded up to 200,000 square feet on the current site, according to a post on HOK’s website.
Founded in 1951, Consumers Credit Union serves 86,268 individuals and businesses through 19 offices and more than 200 free ATM locations in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Portage, Battle Creek, Coldwater, Holland, Lawton, Mattawan and South Haven.
As of Sept. 30, the credit union had more than $934 million in total assets.
