A credit union has opened its next branch in the region.

Kalamazoo-based Consumers Credit Union said yesterday it opened a location in Battle Creek, at 6081 B Dr. N.

The location will serve the credit union’s more than 1,200 members in the Battle Creek area.

The Consumers Battle Creek branch will offer financial services and products to both private and commercial customers.

The building has a renovated lobby and drive-thru with interactive tellers, making it the sixth Consumers location to feature the video-based technology.

Users of the interactive tellers will experience a two-way video call with a teller to complete basic transactions, ask account-related questions and complete transactions that are too complex for a traditional ATM, including cash advances, currency exchanges and loan payments.

“This technology with a truly personal touch makes banking more convenient for our members,” said Scott Sylvester, chief operations officer, Consumers Credit Union.

Sylvester said the credit union is “always looking for ways to ensure our members can bank how they want, when they want.”

“Our interactive tellers do just that,” he said.

Kalamazoo-based Bosch Architecture was responsible for the design, and Portage-based AVB completed the build out.

Locally owned for more than 65 years, Consumers Credit Union has more than $860 million in assets and has averaged 18-percent annual growth for 27 straight years.

Consumers has more than 80,000 customers and 20 locations scattered in Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Coldwater, Holland, South Haven and now Battle Creek.

Members also have access to 30,000 free co-op network ATMs.
