A culinary school in the region has received a designation from a global association of chefs based in Paris.
The degree programs at the Culinary Institute of Michigan, or CIM, a division of Baker College, have received the official Recognition of Quality Culinary Education from the World Association of Chefs’ Societies, or Worldchefs, according to the college this week.
The institute, which has campuses in Muskegon and Port Huron, is the only culinary school in Michigan and one of four in the U.S. to receive the endorsement, the college said.
The Worldchefs Recognition of Quality Culinary Education program recognizes educational institutions’ culinary and pastry arts programs that meet or exceed a set of global standards for quality, including evaluation of leadership, instructors, facilities, lesson delivery, industry and educational support, food safety and more.
Founded at the Sarbonne in Paris in 1928, Worldchefs is a global network of more than 100 chef associations representing culinarians of all specialties.
“Worldchefs is a global authority on food, so to be officially recognized by this organization is a huge honor for the CIM teams,” said chef Tom Recinella, dean of culinary, Baker College. “We’re grateful to be acknowledged for our commitment to excellence.”
The Culinary Institute of Michigan offers associate’s degree and certificate programs.
CIM students learn from experienced industry professionals and develop technical skills through hands-on training at Baker College culinary facilities.
Student chefs also gain real-world experience working at Courses, a teaching restaurant that’s open to the public and located on each CIM campus.
