A husband and wife in Grand Rapids have joined forces to coordinate architecture and interior design.
Deidre Remtema, owner of Deidre Interiors, recently hired her husband Jeff Remtema as an architect to expand her services to include interior design, architecture and furnishings.
Jeff Remtema has over 20 years experience working in various local architecture firms, specializing in sustainability in commercial and residential projects.
The decision to bring on Jeff Remtema was both personal and professional, Deidre Remtema said. The couple has two middle school-aged boys, and they wanted more flexibility to run them to sporting events, pick them up from school and generally be around more often.
Deidre Interiors also has a growing client base with more complex projects that required greater coordination between project teams.
The firm’s clients are in Michigan and span from downtown Grand Rapids condos to Lake Michigan properties to rural, multigenerational homesteads.
After working for almost 10 years in commercial interior design at firms around Grand Rapids, Deidre Remtema launched Deidre Interiors in 2009 to reach the same goal of work-life balance, but the business quickly grew. She brought on a second interior designer and a third employee responsible for client relations.
The team works from their home office in the Creston neighborhood. A home they restored together.
Deidre Interiors also includes interior designer Jamie Ball and Client Relations Manager PJ Jennings.
