A local developer is building an apartment complex to encourage energy-efficient living.
Bazzani Building Company recently broke ground on Bradford Station at the intersection of Lafayette Avenue and Bradford Street. The $3.5 million, 16,500-square-foot, all-electric building is planned for LEED for Homes certification and will be compliant with the Grand Rapids 2030 District.
Bradford station, opening fall 2020, promises 23 well-appointed studio and one-bedroom apartments, and one ground-floor retail space.
The apartments will be built to consume approximately 50% less energy than a standard new apartment by Home Energy Rating System index and allow a carbon-neutral lifestyle.
Once complete, Bradford Station will be owned by a group of partners including owners of Bazzani Building Company and the existing landowner. Management still is being determined.
“This is a model we have used for several projects in the last few years and plan to continue,” Bazzani President Peter Skornia said. “As builders and developers, we are in a good position to assess both the cost and the income potential associated with improvements to an existing building or vacant land.”
With secure bicycle storage and an adjacent station for The Rapid Route 11, tenants also will have a practical option for living without a car. The location is within easy walking distance to the Medical Mile and GVSU Health Campus.
Other amenities include in-suite laundry and some units will have a porch or Juliet balcony.
