Developer plans $8.6M commercial project

A Grand Rapids developer is planning a commercial project in the area with restaurant, retail and office spaces.

CWD Real Estate Development’s brownfield plan for 2557, 2757, 2759 and 2761 44th St. SW was slated to be discussed at the Wyoming Economic Development and Brownfield Redevelopment meeting on Monday night, but it was removed from the agenda prior to the meeting.

Wyoming Assistant City Manager Megan Sall couldn’t confirm a new date for review or a date for approval.

The project would redevelop a 5.7-acre site near CWD’s Bucktown development in Grandville.

The redevelopment would include the demolition of existing structures and the construction of new commercial spaces.

The site currently has three buildings, a three-story office building, a former restaurant and a 19,000-square-foot strip mall.

CWD expects a total capital investment of $8.6 million in the project, which may ultimately create more than 100 jobs, according to City of Wyoming documents.

CWD was seeking brownfield costs of up to $1.1 million, according to the agenda.

Currently, construction is planned to begin in spring 2018, with a phased completion over the following 36 months.
