A developer is planning to build a hotel and restaurant along a busy retail corridor on East Beltline.

Holland-based Suburban Inns is planning to construct a four story, 144-room Hilton Garden Inn at a vacant site in Grand Rapids next to Woodland Mall, at 2321 East Beltline SE.

Hilton

The Hilton Garden Inn will be about 93,613 feet and feature several elements: a small banquet and meeting space, which could host about 144 people; indoor Michigan-shaped pool; indoor and outdoor spa; oversized recreation area; fitness center; and 236 parking spaces.

“This brand is highly sought after by business travelers and loyal Hilton Honors members,” said Peter Beukema, COO and partner, Suburban Inns.

Restaurant

The hotel site will also feature an adjacent 8,839-square-foot restaurant with seating for 220 guests and another 50 guests on a patio.

Jobs

Combined, the hotel and restaurant will employ about 110-130 people.

The site

“We have owned this site for a number of years and have been busy with other projects, but now is the right time to get moving on this exciting project,” Beukema said.

Beukema said the project “fills a need in the area by bringing a hotel and restaurant to a vacant site close to Ford airport.”

Brian Beukema, president and partner, Suburban Inns, added that the company chose the site and market, because when it looked at the market, it saw its “typical customers,” but its “products and services were non-existent.”

Timing

Suburban Inns hopes to begin construction “as soon as possible” after it secures a permit from the city of Grand Rapids to begin work on the site, Brian said.

The design and construction for the site is being done by Suburban Inns.
