A new 51,000-square-foot office building is under construction in the area.

The three-story office building is underway on about two acres in Byron Township, at 6500 Byron Center Dr.

Construction should be complete in August.

The building is one of several planned for the new JBB Place development on more than 15 acres on the corner of Byron Center Avenue and 64th Street.

The development is owned by Tony Basile, president of Chicago-based Chicago Diversified Foods.

The office project is estimated to cost $10 million, Basile said.

Basile said no tenants have been confirmed, but there’s an oral surgery group and a health insurance company interested.

The building is designed to accommodate six businesses, but it is flexible, according to Mike Houseman of Grand Rapids-based Wolverine Building Group, the contractor on the project.

Grand Rapids-based Henrickson Architecture is the project’s architect.

Robert Lotzar of Grand Rapids-based Martin Commercial Properties is the real estate agent working to place tenants.
