A maker of die cast machines is doubling the size of its plant and increasing its employee roster.
Business at Die Cast Press Manufacturing in Paw Paw has increased lately, and it has several years of contracts in hand, according to Paw Paw Township Supervisor Dave Richardson.
The company makes and rebuilds die cast machines and trim presses, apparently for the auto industry, Richardson said.
Die Cast Press Manufacturing plans to add to its staff by about a dozen, with the help of an industrial facilities tax exemption granted by the Paw Paw Township board.
The tax break will save the company 50 percent on taxes on $1.6-million worth of property over the next 12 years.
Richardson said the company has “been here for quite a few years now” and is owned by Ron and Kasper Smidt.
The company came to the township board in the fall to request a tax abatement for new investment and was “in quite a hurry to get building permits to get footings in before the frost,” according to Richardson.
“We kind of pushed things along, because we tried to help them,” Richardson added.
