A local distillery earned critical acclaim among global competitors.
Wise Men Distillery’s Red Tape Series White Rum was awarded a silver medal last week by Fifty Best.
The Fifty Best is a guide to wines, spirits, beer, food, cigars and more featuring ratings/reviews from monthly judged blind tastings.
Wise Men’s White Rum was among only 10 entrants in the white rum category.
“Our business began with the belief that we could create, bottle and distribute superior quality spirits. So, it is extremely satisfying to continually have independent industry experts rank our products among the best in the country,” said distillery co-owner Tom Borisch.
The Fifty Best Silver Medal underscores another recent success for Wise Men Distillery.
The distillery recently received approval for a special land use request, clearing the way to open a 700-square-foot tasting room on the main floor of McKay Tower, 146 Monroe Center NW in downtown Grand Rapids by spring 2020.
“We are looking forward to becoming part of the vibrant downtown Grand Rapids entertainment district,” Borisch said. “Our McKay Tower location will provide us with an opportunity to expand our brand to a huge and growing professional workforce in downtown Grand Rapids.”
Wise Men, which opened its Kentwood distillery and tasting room in late spring 2019, is co-owned by Borisch, Jason Post and Zack Van Dyke.
Wise Men Distillery spirits — Apple Pie Moonshine, vodka, white whiskey, bourbon, white and spiced rums — are brokered by Benchmark Beverage Company and can be found at retailers and bars throughout Michigan.
