A West Michigan distributor of cleaning, packaging and safety products to multiple industries has acquired an out-of-state company in the same industry.

Norton Shores-based Nichols recently acquired DawnChem of Cleveland, Ohio.

The agreement, which closed on June 10, will allow Nichols to expand its presence in northeast Ohio.

DawnChem was founded in 1977 as a family owned and operated cleaning supplies and equipment company.

The acquisition expands Nichols’ reach as a provider of solutions for clean and healthy facilities and the safe shipment of products.

“I am personally excited to be a part of this new company as we evolve and integrate the experience of the DawnChem team with the resources of Nichols,” said Ed Rossi, president, DawnChem.

“Nichols-DawnChem will provide our customers with tremendous new product offerings and opportunities along with over 80 years in distribution excellence.”

The purchase of DawnChem is the latest in a number of acquisitions completed since Nichols was founded in 1936.

Nichols serves various industries: food processing, education, building services, health care, hospitality and more.

The company has branches across four states: in Grand Rapids, metro Detroit, Holland and Traverse City; Bowling Green and Cleveland, Ohio; Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, Indiana; and Decatur, Illinois.
