The lineup for Movies on Monroe, formerly Movies in the Park, has been announced.

The event will take place every other Friday from June 8 to Aug. 17 at a new location in downtown Grand Rapids, at 555 Monroe Ave. NW, a pair of former parking lots.

The annual summer series was previously held at Ah-Nab-Awen Park.

Hosted by Downtown Grand Rapids Inc., or DGRI, the event is free and open to the public.

DGRI is working to transform the new site into a green community area for the movie screenings and other events, according to Jennie Schumacher, communications specialist, DGRI.

DGRI believes that moving the series to the new space will bring people to the area and its businesses.

Movie-goers may bring blankets, chairs, food and beverages, including beer and wine. Vendors will also sell snacks at the event.

Pre-movie entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m. The first film begins at 7:30 p.m.

Event organizers recommend arriving early to park and claim a spot to sit.
