Four West Michigan organizations are producing a daylong event celebrating International Women’s Day next month.
Amway, Inforum, Meijer and Spectrum Health will host the event — with this year’s theme being “The Power of Being Real” — from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. March 4 at DeVos Place, 303 Monroe Ave. NW in downtown Grand Rapids.
Tickets are available online until Feb. 25 for the event, which is expected to sell out.
“Amway is excited to continue the celebration of women in West Michigan and the allies who support them,” said Angel Duff, managing counsel at Amway, which is the founding organizer of the eighth annual event.
“This year’s event will serve as a platform for productive discussions surrounding the importance of authenticity and overcoming adversity. This is aligned with Amway’s goal to cultivate a culture that actively encourages authenticity and empowers diverse perspectives.”
The speaking lineup includes keynote speeches by Buhle Dlamini, who worked closely with Nelson Mandela; and Risha Grant, author and expert on diversity, inclusion and bias.
“I am looking forward to presenting ‘Unleashing Your Greatness’ at the International Women’s Day event,” Dlamini said.
“The future of work requires a new way of thinking and doing things, presenting exciting opportunities for changing the status quo. … I will be sharing key insights on how to unleash the power of being real, being authentic to who you are … living your values and having a winning attitude.”
Grant, winner of a 2019 Top 100 HR Influencers award, will share her presentation, “Want to Get Real? Get Rid of the BS!,” encouraging attendees and companies to reflect on discrimination and diversity within the workplace.
“There is power in your authenticity. Being authentic and confronting my bias has led me to live free. I’ll show you how ‘The Power of Being Real’ can change your life, too,” Grant said.
Also on the schedule
The event also will include a slate of breakout sessions with topics including “Get Used to It,” by Manon Rhéaume, the first woman to play in an NHL game; “How to Practice Emotional First Aid,” by Guy Winch; “Working Through Adversity and Handling Uncomfortable Situations with Unshakeable Confidence,” by Deborah Owens; and “Women Helping Women: Strengthening Our Sisterhood for Success,” by Kimberly Houston.
