A downtown hotel has a new leader.

Nicholas Remes was promoted from assistant general manager to general manager at JW Marriott Grand Rapids, at 235 Louis St. NW.

An 11-year veteran of AHC+Hospitality, the company that owns the hotel, and a member of the original hotel opening team, Remes will now oversee hotel operations and the property’s food and beverage outlets: six.one.six, Mixology Lounge and jdek.

“Nick embodies everything the JW stands for — impeccable service, quality experiences and heart," said George Aquino, VP and managing director, AHC+Hospitality. "If Nick were a superhero, his uniform would have a huge JW on the chest.

“I could not be happier to see Nick achieve his ultimate goal of becoming the JW Marriott general manager and watch him continue to elevate the JW experience with his passion and leadership.”

Remes joined the JW Marriott Grand Rapids team as the assistant rooms division manager in 2007, where he streamlined the hotel’s operations and was promoted to assistant general manager in 2015.

Remes began his career at the Inn at Bay Harbor in northern Michigan as a front office manager in 2006.

“With Grand Rapids experiencing an economic boom and AHC+Hospitality’s bourgeoning presence in the downtown area, it’s an honor to lead one of the largest and most recognized luxury hotels in West Michigan,” Remes said.

He holds a bachelor's degree in hospitality business from Michigan State University.
