The Grand Rapids Downtown Market has elected two new board members who will also serve on its finance committee.
They are Laina Mills, C.F.A., SVP and chief investment officer at Legacy Trust, and Steve Johnson, C.P.A., a partner at Vander Ploeg, Bergakker & Associates.
The new members are both filling open positions in three-year terms. Mills’ term goes through Dec. 31, 2021, and Johnson’s term goes through Dec. 31, 2019.

Laina Mills
In her role at Legacy Trust, Mills leads oversees the firm’s investment philosophy and asset management strategies and manages individual and family office portfolios with the firm’s wealth management staff.
She also serves on the board of directors for Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, Opera Grand Rapids and Catholic Charities West Michigan and volunteers as an investment committee member for St. Cecilia Music Center.
Steve Johnson
Johnson has worked in public accounting for over 17 years, joining Vander Ploeg, Bergakker & Associates in 2016.
He provides partnership and corporate tax assistance, audit and assurance services, financial performance evaluation and proforma preparation for clients in the construction, real estate, nonprofit and manufacturing industries.
Johnson has served on various boards and committees, including Volunteers in Service, Cornerstone URC, Reformed Youth Services, Zion Christian School, Builder’s Exchange of Michigan and the Construction Financial Management Association.
