A charity event for local dancers to show off their moves is happening downtown next week.
The DanceOff will be on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. at The Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids, at 68 Commerce SW.
Contestants are being finalized this week as audition videos submitted online are being reviewed by Deavondre Jones of Dancespire, a venture that offers a combination of performance art, public speaking presentations and drop-in dance classes.
The top 25 contestants will each perform in front of a live audience and three guest judges.
The winner will receive $500, the second-place finisher will receive $300 and the third-place finisher will receive $100.
“Each year I am blown away by the level of talent, of all ages, in our community,” said Jonathan Williams, founder, The DanceOff. “In our fifth year, we expect to discover some standout performers and to hit a fundraising goal for the Well House.”
Tickets are $10 each and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit Well House, a nonprofit that works to end homelessness.
There will also be music and food at the event.
The DanceOff will be hosted by Jones and is being co-organized by Williams and Tami Vandenberg, co-owner of The Pyramid Scheme, and sponsored by Celebration! Cinema.
