The Grand Rapids Drive and a financial services firm have teamed up for special weekends this season.
"River City Sundays"
The professional basketball team and Northwestern Mutual of Grand Rapids said this week that they’ll add three "River City Sundays" to the schedule.
The first "River City Sunday" is this Sunday at 4 p.m. at The DeltaPlex in Grand Rapids. The other two "River City Sunday" games will be Dec. 13 and Jan. 24.
Drive players will wear custom-designed "River City" uniforms, featuring navy blue, red and white.
Drive VP Wes Weir said the organization is proud to partner with the firm to “highlight the tradition-rich city of Grand Rapids, known throughout the region as River City.”
He added that on Sunday, the organization will unveil "River City" jerseys and merchandise for fans.
Weir said along with providing more retail options for fans, the promotion will create a closer tie to its parent club, the Detroit Pistons.
“Our goal was to provide a unique spin on how the Pistons brand their Sunday games as 'Motor City Sundays,'” Weir said.
Northwestern Mutual will also host a career fair later in the season prior to a game.
Weir said the firm was “a perfect partner for this,” as it aims to "foster and develop homegrown talent."
The first 500 fans will receive Drive pennants on Sunday, and $1 hot dogs will be available at the game.
Tickets for Sunday range from $5 to $30 as the Drive take on the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
