DTE truck causes outage for 1,800 Consumers Energy customers

About 1,800 Consumers Energy customers in a local town lost power yesterday after a DTE Energy truck drove through their downtown.

The truck failed to lower its boom and brought down three utility poles in East Grand Rapids.

No one was injured when the DTE truck snagged some power lines and toppled the poles around 4:30 p.m., said Debra Dodd, a Consumers Energy spokesperson.

Dodd said the poles fell on some parked cars.

DTE had been doing work in the area, and the driver failed to completely lower and stow the truck's boom, according to Dodd.

Dodd said all but two customers have had their power restored as of Thursday morning.

DTE Energy spokesman Alejandro Bodipo-Memba said the utility is looking into the incident.
