A local economic development corporation chose its next chief operating officer.

Grand Rapids-based Gun Lake Investments (GLI) said Tuesday, May 10, it appointed Jimmy TenBrink as COO, effective immediately.

TenBrink comes to GLI with leadership experience in business and operational roles, including serving as president of RSI Manufacturing and Baker Engineering, as well as director of corporate business development and director of operations at Waséyabek Development Company, a 100% tribally owned holding company.

“I am incredibly honored to have the opportunity to join GLI and excited about how this work directly benefits Indian Country,” TenBrink said. “GLI works to put its people and communities first every day, and I am proud to be part of an organization that shares the same values as me. I am passionate about investing in good businesses and helping them achieve their vision and goals, while also generating wealth and resources to help secure the future of tribal members. I can’t wait to get started serving the Gun Lake Tribe in this capacity.”

TenBrink is a member of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi and joins a team at GLI committed to diversity and inclusion. Over half of GLI’s current staff are members of tribes or minorities, and half are women.

“Jimmy brings an energy and a passion to his work that I believe make him an excellent fit with the team and culture we have created at GLI,” said Monica King, GLI CEO. “With his expertise in business and private investments, as well as his experiences as a tribal member and working in Indian Country, Jimmy will add a new depth of perspective as he leads GLI operations. I look forward to working alongside Jimmy as we continue to grow our team and portfolio.”

GLI is an economic development corporation wholly owned by the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians, also known as the Gun Lake Tribe. GLI manages a portfolio of equity and debt investments in real estate and operating companies with the philosophy of prioritizing and investing in people first.

“The board is pleased to have Jimmy as Gun Lake Investments COO,” said Melissa Brown, GLI board vice chair. “Our current portfolio and growth strategy made it critically important to have someone overseeing operations with tribal experience and an ability to begin making a difference on day one. His skillset is a perfect match for the criteria established for the COO and will complement our existing leadership team.”

TenBrink earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and a Master of Jurisprudence in business and corporate law at Loyola University Chicago. He earned an MBA at Grand Valley State University and currently is enrolled in the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law studying business law.
