A local college received national recognition.

Aquinas College was recognized as one of the 2019-20 Colleges of Distinction, which is based on four merits — student engagement, teaching, community and outcomes.

Some of Aquinas’ distinctions include programs such as student internships, study away, undergraduate research, service learning, interdisciplinary academics, diversity and inclusion, first-year experience and more.

“We know that every student is different in what they need to best learn, grow and succeed,” said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer for Colleges of Distinction. “Aquinas College puts the student experience first, providing all the tools and opportunities they need to become lifelong learners who are ready to take on any challenge in today’s ever-evolving society.”

The Colleges of Distinction’s selection process consists of interviews and research for each institution’s first-year experience and retention efforts, general education programs, career development, strategic plan, student satisfaction and more.

“It is encouraging to find that Aquinas College takes such an innovative approach with its curriculum,” Schritter said. “Its high-impact educational practices ensure that the undergraduate experience is worthwhile and unique.”
