The Van Andel Institute (VAI) for Education is introducing two summer initiatives to address staff shortages, student absences and pandemic fatigue.
The two initiatives are a K-8 project-based summer school and Science on the Grand.
The summer school project enables VAI to help educators plan for and deliver summer school instruction. The initiative allows educators the opportunity to choose from 10 developed projects, which include complete lesson plans and supplies that can complement any existing content curriculum.

Science on the Grand will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 11-12, at VAI Campus, at 333 Bostwick Ave. NE in Grand Rapids. The conference will provide research, classroom and inquiry-oriented content that supports classroom expectations, content standards and educators.
The keynote session will feature Erin Gruwell of Freedom Writers Foundation, who will share her expertise with educators.
Registration is open with an early bird discount of $100 per person until May 15.
