Entrepreneur opens suburban bakery

An entrepreneur who has been operating a startup bakery for almost four years has put down temporary roots north of town.

Stephanie Dolly on Saturday hosted a grand opening for her bakery, Dolly’s Delights, which is inside an existing bakery, Cookie Chicks, at 3979 W. River Drive, Suite A2, in Comstock Park.

Dolly’s Delights, which Dolly launched out of her home in 2016, offers custom desserts such as cheesecake, pies, cakes, pudding, cake jars, cupcakes and more.

Dolly is a 2017 graduate of the SpringGR training program and, in January, outgrew the Grand Rapids Downtown Market incubator kitchen.

Holly del Rosario, managing partner of Cookie Chicks, said Dolly is renting incubator space at Cookie Chicks while she builds her brand and grows her business.

Dolly said attendance at her grand opening on Saturday exceeded her expectations.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity,” Dolly said. “That’s all I wanted was a chance for people to come in and be able to get their sweets and see me. I never had that. I was always (on) social media or delivering to people. This makes it so much better, and it basically proved what I was saying to myself — now that people see what I’m doing, they’re coming in and they want to buy it. I’m able to reach a whole different customer base outside of Facebook.”

Dolly said the bakery’s website still is in progress. In the meantime, customers can place their orders at (616) 389-0864, dollysdelights17@gmail.com, by messaging the “Dolly’s Delight” Facebook page or in person at the shop.

Hours currently are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, but Dolly noted those will be changing soon.
