The president of international at an e-cigarette maker in the region is the new chairman of Europe’s Electronic Cigarette Industry Trade Association.
Victory Electronic Cigarettes Corporation in Nunica, east of Grand Haven, said this week that Michael Clapper will head the association.
The Electronic Cigarette Industry Trade Association is made up of 26 e-cigarette companies from Europe.
Victory Electronic Cigarettes owns multiple subsidiaries and maintains operations across the globe, including west Europe.
Clapper said the association will continue "constructive dialogue" with government agencies and regulators in the European Union.
The organization is also working to enhance its communications, including launching a new website and literature.
Clapper said the association is at an “exciting and pivotal time in its development," and the association and e-cigarette industry are “maturing extremely fast.”
He added that the association is “already leading the way on product standards.”
Clapper will replace Mike Ryan, who served as chairman of the association since its inception in 2010.
The association is the first organization in Europe to independently test the e-cigarette industry’s products for quality and safety, as a form of self-regulation.
The association's member companies adhere to its standards audit program to retain their memberships.
The standards audit includes several elements: testing, labeling, packaging, electrical certification, child proofing and promotional activities.
