Event offers wine, beer and food

The 8th Annual Grand Rapids International Wine, Beer & Food Festival returns this weekend.

The event runs Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 19-21, at DeVos Place. Single-day advance tickets are $15; a three-day pass is $40. Sampling tickets are 50 cents.

This year, The Vineyard in the main ballroom will have more than 1,200 wines to try, including “The Elite Collection.” The special collection of wines must have at least a 90-point value in a recognized wine rating system and considered by the industry and consumers as an elite wine.

Exhibit Hall C will be Beer City Station, featuring more than 250 beers from local breweries as well as imported and domestic beers. Also located within Beer City Station will be Cider Row, with more than a dozen cider producers from Michigan and more from across the country.

Another integral portion of the festival — food — will include representation from Anna’s House Restaurant, Curry Kitchen, Cygnus 27, FireRock Grille, Ganders, Gravity, Gilly’s, Intermission, JU Sushi, New Holland Brewing Co., Reserve Wine & Food, Sandy Point Beach House and Terra GR.

Chefs will present special pairing dinners during the festival, including chefs from Vintage, San Chez, Wolfgang Puck’s The Kitchen, six.one.six and Ganders. Tickets can be reserved online at GRWineFestival.com, or on-site on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Riverfront Market is back, as well, featuring specialty items for holiday gifts with cash-and-carry or ordering options.

Various workshops, seminars and events will feature chefs, brewers and distillers.

The Impacting Hospitality Celebration is scheduled for Thursday afternoon to celebrate the WAVE Award winners who help bring national conventions to Grand Rapids, and the Certified Tourism Ambassador Star of the Year.

A Beer City Round Table, hosted by Business Journal reporter Pat Evans and Brewery Vivant’s Ben Darcie, will offer a Q&A with all of the operating breweries in Greater Grand Rapids at 7 p.m., Thursday.
