A local private equity executive has been named the best in his profession by a national publication.
Blackford Capital Founder and Managing Director Martin Stein was named the 2016 Private Equity Professional of the Year at the 15th annual M&A Advisor Awards last week at the New York Athletic Club.
“We are proud to be creating significant value for our limited partners as well as building the legacies for the founders of the companies in which we invest,” Stein said. “These honors encourage us to continue the success we've had, as we look to spur economic growth and job creation in the communities and industries that we serve throughout Michigan and the U.S."
The Grand Rapids-based firm also was a finalist in nine other categories, including National Private Equity Firm of the Year:
- Private Equity Deal of the Year, M&A Deal of the Year and Materials Deal of the Year for Blackford’s acquisition of Quality Aluminum Products
- Private Equity Deal of the Year and Industrials Deal of the Year for Blackford’s acquisition of Grand Equipment
- Equity Financing of the Year and Private Equity Deal of the Year for Blackford’s financing of portfolio company Staging Concepts and its acquisition of Architectural Railings & Grilles
- Corporate and Strategic Acquisition of the Year for portfolio company Grand Transformers’ acquisition of Warner Power
Grand Rapids-based Lambert, Edwards & Associates also was a finalist for Communications Firm of the Year, an honor that went to New York-based Sard Verbinnen & Co.
