A local eye care practice has named the former leader of a North American fertility network its new CEO.
Grand Rapids Ophthalmology, or GRO, said this month it hired Bill Hughson for the role.
He’ll work with GRO’s senior leadership and doctors to advance the practice’s expansion in the region, evolve clinical development and form strategic partnerships with health care systems.
Hughson’s hiring comes on the heels of an investment in GRO by Chicago-based Sterling Partners, a private equity firm, and GRO’s subsequent merger into the firm’s Great Lakes Management Services Organization, a practice MSO.
"One of the reasons we were so thrilled to join Great Lakes Management Services Organization was the access we'd have to great talent,” GRO ophthalmologist Dr. David Barrett said. “Under Bill's leadership, we'll build upon our strong market position, pursue additional growth opportunities and partner with more outstanding doctors to deliver the best possible patient care."
Hughson said he looks forward to “working with the GRO team as we begin our next chapter."
“It's clear that GRO's longevity, the quality of its doctors and staff and its recent partnership with Great Lakes MSO have uniquely positioned GRO to rapidly and strategically grow,” Hughson said.
Most recently, Hughson was the president and CEO of IntegraMed Fertility, a network with 28 practices and 175 reproductive endocrinologists.
Previously, he has held leadership positions at DeVry Education Group and DaVita, a Fortune 500 provider of dialysis and related services.
Hughson also serves on the board of directors at IntegraMed Fertility and FRO.
He holds an A.B. in English and economics, cum laude, from Williams College and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.
